Nicholas entered the funeral profession at 15 years old and by the age of 20 had gained his diploma in both the fields of Funeral Directing and Embalming. As the business grew Nicholas saw the opportunity for the business to expand and in 1982 Nicholas and his family moved their home to Verwood to start a new funeral home in Vicarage Road and in 1987 a third office and chapels were opened in Station Road, West Moors. With the expansion of the business the numbers of staff have grown and Nicholas and Jackie became aware of what type of person would suit their business. Chris Antell a long time friend came and trained as a funeral director and he now also conducts funeral services where families would prefer not to have a vicar. Chris’ wife Bernie joined soon after to run the West Moors office. But the biggest change was in 1997 when their son Anthony and daughter Natalie joined their parents in the family business. Anthony like Chris also gained his diploma in funeral directing and both children have helped in seeing the business grow and enter a new modern era. A business full of traditional values but done with the appreciation of the modern era, Nicholas, Jackie and family thrive to make the business achieve the high standards that Nicholas had always aimed for when entering this profession. The modern and distinguished looking silver fleet of E class Mercedes, an ambulance that is fitted and equipped to cater for all situations, the chapels and offices decorated tastefully to match their surroundings and staff attired on the day of a funeral in navy blue suits again emphasising people’s more modern approach to funerals. The business drive and motivation today is still the same as in the beginning to give to all families the highest standard of care, facilities and help in their times of need. |
