This June marked the grand conclusion of The Great Tail Trail, a joyful celebration of creativity and community in support of Julia’s House Children’s Hospice. Held at the Bournemouth International Centre, the weekend of June 14th saw all of the lovingly crafted tails come together for a two-day exhibition, drawing visitors from far and wide.
On Saturday, June 21st, the large tails took centre stage once more — this time for an inspiring charity auction. All but one tail found new homes through generous bids. The exception? The exquisitely poignant ‘Waves of Love’ memory tail, proudly sponsored by Nicholas O’Hara Funeral Directors.
Soon to receive its final set of names — bringing the total to approximately 300 — the tail will be lovingly varnished and permanently displayed at Castlepoint Shopping Centre. As a lasting tribute, it will continue to touch lives and spark reflection for years to come.
Over 2,500 people registered their visit to the Waves of Love tail on the trail’s app, with thousands more encountering it along the route. It wasn’t just a work of art — it was a beacon of remembrance and community connection.
Anthony and Jane of Nicholas O’Hara FD had the pleasure of meeting artist Judy one last time at the farewell event. Reflecting on the journey, they shared how deeply meaningful it was to collaborate on such a heartfelt initiative.
